QIDAN data
Our member organisations provide advocacy to Queenslanders with disability. This page includes snapshots of the data from our members such as the types of advocacy they provide, the number of people asking for advocacy support, and demographic information such as the percentage of First Nations people accessing advocacy. This could also include some analysis of trends in the data.
QIDAN data analysis – housing
In August 2022, the Queensland Independent Disability Advocacy Network (QIDAN) met with the Hon Craig Crawford, Minister for Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, to discuss some of the key issues that Queenslanders with disability experience. Following the meeting, QIDAN prepared a report for the Minister highlighting housing and tenancy as a key issue for Queenslanders seeking disability advocacy.
Housing is one of the biggest issues people with disability are seeking advocacy assistance for. 18.2% of people requesting advocacy assistance between January 2022 to July 2022 reported that their number one advocacy issue was related to housing. In addition to this, 16% of people seeking advocacy assistance were experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
QIDAN data analysis
In July 2022, the Queensland Independent Disability Advocacy Network (QIDAN) prepared a report for the Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships (DSDSATSIP). The report analyses the Pathways information & referral services as well as Queensland Disability Advocacy Program data from January – May 2022. The report highlights the significant shortfalls in advocacy funding for Queenslanders with disability and calls for the state government to increase funding to a minimum of $15 million per annum to assist with meeting the ever increasing demand for advocacy services.
